I'm Annukka Repo, better known as "Nukka", which in Finnish means the fluff that comes off your clothes :D
My career as a graphic designer began from Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences (KyAMK then, now Xamk since 2017). I graduated as a Bachelor of Culture and Arts from degree program in Design which was held completely in English. I got to try my hand in wood, plastic, metal and jewellery workshops (where I handmade a pair of eye glasses for myself) as well as perspective drawing, conceptual design and 3D product design.
I participated actively in the board of Student Union Klaani and also worked as an International Students' Tutor for two academic years in 2012-2013. For Klaani I also redesigned the Student's Pocket Info booklet. My thesis was a collaboration with board game designer and founder of SmellColorSix.
I grew up in Järvenpää and got my high school diploma in Kerava. As a child drawing was one of the only things I wanted to do and making my own playdough figurines and building matchstick houses. During school I mostly drew on the insides of notebook covers, creating a huge world on my wall by taping the covers together.
Unlike most of the 90's kids, I never got to work with ironing beads before the age of 20 when I found a new way to interpret my love to DOS pixel games such as Apogee's Monster Bash, Biomenace and Commander Keen. Now I have a huge storage of Hamabeads and in my freetime I do comissions on big pixel art pieces from before mentioned games and other sources.
After graduation I moved to Tampere with my darling and my cat called Pippuri. I was immediately swept along with the awesome international people at Twinkle Association and PESU ry, in which I still work as a freelance graphic designer.
Having worked with start-ups already in Kouvola, contacting the start-ups in NewFactory in early 2016 came naturally. Now I'm the second graphic designer at the School of Creativity and Design team.
In April 2016 Twinkle Association was separated from its founder Tredea Oy, whose development director later asked me to design a talent booklet and a certificate to KasvuOpen event Talents for Growth.
The following summer I worked as an intern in advertising agency Mainostoimisto Aate. Around new year I worked on a project with 6Aika and city of Tampere in TalentSpace at Finlayson.
I'm a member of Grafia - Association of Visual Communication Designers in Finland, and my freelance work is invoiced through UKKO.fi that also makes sure all taxes and such are paid according to Finnish law.
